The theatre is situated in the heart of downtown Toronto and is called a double decker being fully restored and built one on top of the other. It was first opened in the year 1913. The seven-storey Winter Garden Theatre was constructed above the Elgin Theatre. They have two distinctively different ambiance. The downstairs Elgin is more formal with gold leaf and rich fabric and is larger with 1,500 seating capacity while the Winter Garden is more of a botanical fantasy and painted to look like a garden and has 1,000-seats. Both theatres cater for Broadway musicals, dramas, concerts, and opera performances. It is also hosting the Toronto International Film Festival.
You can have a guided tour on Thursdays at 5:00 P.M. and Saturdays at 11:00 A.M.
