I found this Arabic perfume shop on An Nasr street, near the crossing with Al Wadi street, and it was a real good surprise; the other surprise was that there were only men in the shop (shop keepers and customers). thousands of little bottles were on display, they are generally essential essence, distilled locally or imported, and blends of these essences. It was a bit too much for my nose to find what was what, and one of the keepers gave me about 20 different perfumes to smell (sandal wood, patchouli, different types of roses, iris, and more, I forgot in the meantime). My daughters were happy with what I brought them back to burn with their perfume lanterns ( I remember I paid less than 20 libyan dinar for three little samples).
I liked this shop which looked so old fashioned and I would not have been surprised if an alembic was at the back of the shop.
