Known as "Sweden's Manchester", Norrköping is a great place for discovering Sweden's industrial heritage, with the Museum of Work, housed in an old factory along the waterfront where the spray is roaring between the buildings and there is even a chimney sticking up in the water. It is quite cool to walk around on the quays here with a camera and you have no difficulty understanding the importance of this setting to manufacture, today often used for cultural events. But Norrköping is also a harbour city at the inner end of a narrow bay in the Baltic Sea, and the peninsula to the south of this is dotted with pretty farms and ends in a gorgeous archipelago, whilst north of the bay is Kolmården with deep forests and Sweden's biggest and best safari park.

Directions: On the Copenhagen to Stockholm main line and along the E4.
