"Shopping" Santorini Island Tourist Trap Tip by GracesTrips

Santorini Island Tourist Traps: 44 reviews and 71 photos

On Santorini, it is obvious by the prices of jewelry, artwork and even food that they take advantage of the fact you are a tourist and have money to spend. For example, my boyfriend was very interested in a painting. He was quoted $2,000 Euro for it. It was a beautiful painting but that equates to $2,600 US and seemed like a lot of money. He didn't buy it but kept thinking about the painting after we left Santorini. Then by chance, I happened upon a gallery in Athens and spotted the same artist. Turns out, this was the sister gallery to the one on Santorini. A similar painting (actually more beautiful) and the same size was $1500 Euro. He bought that one. So, my point being - be careful of the prices on Santorini for expensive items.
