Norrtälje is a place you've probably visited without knowing it if you've been in the Stockholm archipelago at all as most of its outer part belongs to the municipality, and it is simply gorgeous no matter when you visit, including the Ängsö National Park and islands like Ljusterö. Fewer people however seem to visit the town itself which is a shame. Sure, Stockholmers come in droves to their summer cottages but Norrtälje deserves more visitors with its delightful wooden town centre full of good restaurants and cafes, and with a unique piece of world industrial history open summertime.

Directions: Bus from Stockholm.
