Oceanario de Lisboa, Lisbon: 41 reviews and 108 photos
Lisbon's ocenarium is a great to visit. We spent an entire morning here and could easily have stayed longer.
The Oceanarium was built in 1998 for the Expo and is the largest one if Europe. It's home to over 25,000 fish and animals. At the centre of the oceanarium is a huge tank, larger than 4 Olympic sized swimming pools, which contains many different species of fish. There are several viewing windows both on the upper floor and below and you get a really good view of the fish. Among the interesting species we saw were shark, stingray, and manta ray.
Four different ecosystems have been recreated at the corner of the buildings. I found visiting these more enjoyable than seeing the fishtank as they were open air and you can observe the animals very closely. The highlight for us was the Antartic section, where we saw Magellenic penguins and one very lonely looking Rockhopper Penguin, all on his own. These are the cutest animals imaginable and I thought we'd have to wait until our South America trip before we'd get to see them.
The oceanarium is open daily and costs 10 Euros to enter. It's also included on the Parque das Nacoes which covers the cable-car, science museum and toy train.
