This delightful statue, called "Homecoming" can be seen along the waterfront near the Midway Aircraft Carrier. it is a replica of the original Homecoming statue by Stanley Bleifeld which stands on the Quarterdeck of the Navy Memorial Foundation's Naval Heritage Center in Washington, D.C.
The statue "captures that special joyful moment of a Sailor returning to his family and home." It was placed here as a joint project of the San Diego Padres, the Port of San Diego, the San Diego Council U.S. Navy League and the Fleet Reserve Association. It was dedicated on August 13, 1998, in honor of all sea service personnel.
