There aren't that many places in Anchorage where you can see the sun setting into the mountains and go down to the shoreline at the same time. At least we haven't found many yet--at least not within the city limits. But right near the airport, there is a place called Point Woronzof Park that quickly became our favorite sunset viewing area in Anchorage. It allows you to stand up on a cliff for a good view or walk down to the water and get a completely different perspective. On those days when we have clear skies (and the sun actually goes down in the evening), the sunsets are spectacular! What I like most about being here is that during these nice days, people who live in Anchorage come out to Point Woronzof for the great view. You'd think, over time, residents might grow indifferent about the surrounding beauty but they don't.

This park IS technically at the airport so you have planes sometimes taking off directly overhead but it's actually pretty cool to watch as you're waiting for the sun to drop below the mountains.

I didn't alter this photo in any way. I never do, but it's important to point that out for this particular photo because it looks unreal. However, it does explain why so many people come out for these sunsets.

Directions: Take Northern Lights toward Earthquake Park & the airport. Stay on this road. It turns into Point Woronzof. Pass the airport and you get to the park.
