This museum is located in the centre of Ljubljana, in a neo-Renaissance palace built by architect Viljem Treo between 1883 and 1885 but the museums history goes back to 1821. The main part of the museum displays exhibits tracing the country's history and culture and include the world's oldest instrument - a bone flute said to be 55,000 years old. Other exhibits include a lot of stone statues and tablets and burial remains. The museum also includes Slovenia's only Egyptian mummy and other Egyptology artifacts. There was also a big exhibition on the Euro which Slovenia will join on 1/1/2007. The building also houses the Slovenian Museum of Natural History.
Open: 10am-6pm daily. Admission: 700 SIT or 1000 SIT if combined with the Slovenian Museum of Natural History.
