Hostels are always a good choice in expensive cities, and so it is with Stockholm. I chose the Red Boat Hostel located in the water between Gamla Stan and Sodermalm. This is an excellent location and you get to many spots real easily.

I got a 1 bunk for one night, then a shared 2-bed bunk with VTer Naokico. For 4 nights. They were small, but if you?re only sleeping, your eyes are closed anyway, right? Yea, you had to step outside the room to change your mind, but at $43/night for a shared and $60 for a single, who cares.

Showers and bathrooms were spotless, as was the ?common area?. Brekkie was available for 60Sek in advance, or 70SEK that day. That sounds pricey, but it?s really a steal at about $8.50 for an all-u-can eat meal of cereal, coffee, apple & lingonberry(?) juice, toast, cold cuts, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, cucumbers, and even caviar (I tried it?hated it)

Unique Qualities: It's on a boat. They have two boats actually, one red, one white. Red is mostly for doubles, white for singles.

Address: Sodermalarstrand Kajplats 6
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: walk towards Old Town, then Sodermalm, stay to the right and walk under the bridges/train tracks and along the water and you'll see the red boat about 50 yards after you turn to the right.
Phone: 46 8 644 43 85
Price: US$40-80
Theme: Hostel
