  Garden behind theater
by Lhenne1

Knowng California for what it is today, it's hard to believe that this little building was it's original foray into the performing arts.

Originally, the theater was built to be an inn for sailors (built in 1847) but the Army turned it into a theater in order to raise money a couple years later.

When we visited, the museum are of the theater was closed, but a limited engagement for a small show was being advertised. Out back, a lush garden offers a solitary area to enjoy a shady rest.
