The National Academy of the sciences was founded in 1825 by the count István Széchenyi, to promove the hungarian language, the theatre and the sciences. The building itself was constructed in neo-renessaince style in 1865, on plans of the german architect, Friedrich August Stüler, but the internal ornaments were made only 20 years after. This building wasn`t really damaged in the second World war, while the Europa hotel, wich was right next to it, was completely destroyed.
Inside you can see frescos of the most famous hungarian fresco painter, Károly Lotz.
