"Glaciers" Lom Warnings Or Dangers Tip by xantylaol
Lom Warnings and Dangers: 1 reviews and 3 photos
Glaciers are beautiful and interesting to explore and can show a tremendous range of colours that tempt you to get as close as possible to really get a good look. Be careful however. Glaciers regularily calf over and can crush whatever is beneath them or if there's water there - they can create floodwaves - or mini tsunamis if you like. Each year some people get hurt or even die because of this or because they try to walk on the glaciers and fall into cracks where they are quickly subject to hypothermia (eg freeze to death).
If you keep some distance from the glaciers or are escorted by a guide and actually listen to what they say when they tell you which precautions to make - even though the safety blablabla is usually boring - you should be okay. That being said - the glacier walking and viewing possibilities in the approximity of Lom are great!
The first picture shown here actually depicts a man standing more or less at the foot of the glacier - which I wouldn't recommend doing! But it gives you an idea of how huge those glaciers can be...
