Although built in the 14th century, la Sala de Abencerrajes did not earn its name until the 16th century. It is said that members of the Maghrebine Abencerrajes tribe were then slaughtered in the room. La Sala is part of Palacio de los Leones and is connected to its famous namesake patio. The room has intricately carved walls and a most stunning cupola. No words could describe the amazing masonry involved and the effect created by the cupola, and the attached photo does not do it justice. Along with the cupola of Sala de Dos Hermanos, this dome is one of the most admirable architectural works in Alhambra.
