Favorite thing: Walney faces west so naturally it gets some decent sunsets.
In the warm summer months, when the water has had weeks of warming up, what better way to spend an evening by having a dip, a BBQ and watching the sun go down.
The best swimming is when the tide is well on it's way in and just before the water starts to cover the steeply shelving stones. Otherwise, it can be a long walk out to the sea, where it can be rather breezy.

Fondest memory: My earlier memories of Walney are when the open-air swimming pool was in operation and very popular. This was located at Biggar Bank, above the beach and we would spend hours here.
When I was 9 or 10 and the swimming pool had closed, straight after school we would all collect our swimming things and a picnic and head to Biggar Bank beach to while away a few hours.

More recently, we free camped on the beach one glorious day in August, swam, boated, fished and sat round a camp fire as the sun went down. Fantastic.
