  quite scratched, isn't it?

I saw this stone at the corner of a very small alley, Waagegasse. It has been standing there for quite some time and it is covered with scratches. The people living in the corner house of this alley had it put there, because the carriages used to scratch their house, when the driver wasn't careful. So they put this scratching stone up, and any careless coachman no longer ruined the facade of their house, but more likely the wheels of his carriage.
It's a nice reminder of everyday problems and their solutions from a few hundred years ago.

Address: at the corner of the Waagegasse
