Gibraltar's Rock is home to the only wild monkeys in Europe. They are a species of tailless monkeys called Barbary Macaques, which also can be found in northern Africa.

Legend has it that when the apes disappear from Gibraltar, so will the British.

When visiting the rock you almost can't miss them as they are probably already waiting for you at the cable car top station.

They are kind of used to human beings and very cheeky, so don't underestimate all the warnings about watching your belongings.

Please also read my "Warning and Dangers" tip for more info about the apes.

Directions: Most of the apes can be found at the upper area of the Rock and at the so called Ape's Den near the middle station of the cable car.
