"Caves of Keash (Keshcorran)" Ballymote Things to Do Tip by happyhourkid
Ballymote Things to Do: 3 reviews and 11 photos
The Caves of Keash are located near the summit of Keshcorran, which is called a hill but is more like a mountain to the average US Midwesterner. It is located in the small farming community of Kesh, about 5km south of Ballymote on Route 295.
The caves are pre-glacial, and when they were explored thoroughly in the early 1900's it was apparent they were used extensively by man between the 8th and 11th centuries. The caves were ideal because they overlooked the region. Many skeletal remains were also found in the caves-including those of now extinct birds.
Directions: Located on R295 about 5km south of Ballymote.
