In 2004, I visited Granada. One of my best memories was searching for fig trees and eating the ripest figs right off the trees. September is the perfect month for picking figs.
This year, when I returned to Spain, I found many fig trees in the Sierra Nevada area. I would pull over to the side of a road and gather half a dozen and eat half a dozen.
Figs are incredibly healthy.
