"The Bob Bullock State History Museum" Bullock Texas State History Museum Tip by VeronicaG
Bullock Texas State History Museum, Austin: 14 reviews and 24 photos
UPDATE: We traveled to Austin recently (Aug. 2008) to discover that the admission was waived during Wells Fargo First Saturdays (held 2-6pm on the first Saturday of each month) AND for Music Under the Stars* (from 6-9pm on the first Friday of each month during the summer).
It's no coincidence this attraction is my first THINGS TO DO tip. The Bob Bullock Museum covered all phases of Texas history and to visit it is a "must"!
The exhibit began with the native people by illustrating their way of life and artifacts from that period. Early explorers were highlighted with interactive displays. The fight for independence and struggle for statehood were explained and contributions of Texas were defined. Be sure to allot a couple hours to tour the museum!
Displays on more recent history showed the evolution of the oil industry, farming and space exploration. The Texas Spirit Theatre recreates events such as an oil gusher, rocket launch and hurricane--believe me, it's realistic! There is a wonderful museum store on the entrance level.
Hours are Mon.-Sat. 9am-6pm; Sun. 12Noon-6pm; closed Jan. 1, Easter, Thanksgiving and Dec. 24-25. Admission is $5.50 for adults; $4.50 for seniors and military; $3.00 for youth 5-18; free for children 3-4.
The IMAX theatre is $7.00 for adults; $6.00 for seniors or military; $5.00 for youth 5-18 and $3.50 for children 3-4years. Combination tickets can be purchased that include both admission and the IMAX theatre.
