Of course the capital is not to be missed and we enjoyed our short stay is the colourful city. Reykjavik is the most northerly capital city in the world and also the most westerly capital city of Europe. The little streets and the lovely coloured houses it an almost "village" feel. We were luckly enough to have a hotel right on the main shopping street of the city - the Laugavegur. That meant that we stepped out of the hotel right into the old centre of the city. Of course it also meant we had problems parking the car when we chacked in - we found a space a couple of blocks away and left the car there all the time we were in Reykjavik. We went to the Hallgrims church and up its tower. This gives you a wonderful view of the surrounding area. In front of the church is a statue of Leif Eriksson made by Stirling Calder, it was given to Iceland from the USA in 1930. Next to the church is the Listasafin Einars Jonsonnar museum with its gardens. We went on a fantastic Puffin trip from the harbour.
We only had a short stay in the city so we will have to go back to visit more of its museums and surroundings. Staying right in the centre of the city was great for exploring the city but it did have the one drawback of being noisy on the friday night we were there, the clubs are open late and we finally got to sleep about four in the morning.... not too good when we had a flight back to The Netherlands at 7.45 am. So take ear plugs with you! lol
