The historical centre of Prague is best to be covered on foot, since there are so many things to see and it is not too large. Otherwise Prague public transport consists of buses, trams and the Metro. Prague Metro only operates 3 lines, but is quite efficient in and around the Centre. If you wish to get further away, you'll need to take a bus or tram though. If you'd like to ride on all three you need to buy a transfer ticket (prestupni jizdenka). These can be valid for various time periods (1h, 24h, 3 days, 7 days etc.) and are sold at selected metro stations, news agents information centres of Prague public transport and some other places. You always have to validate the ticket when you first use it (e.g. put it into the validating machine which prints the date and exact time of the first use). From then on the ticket is valid until it expires. Don't forget to validate the ticket, because the fines can be quite high if you're caught.
