"Admire Saint Rumbold's Tower" Mechelen Things to Do Tip by DanielF

Mechelen Things to Do: 193 reviews and 305 photos

Should it have been completed, it would be Belgium's tallest Gothic tower. And even unfinished - the 70-meter planned spire was never built - it is one of its most beautiful.

Since the civil belfry of Mechlin was never finished either, the tower was also used for the purpose of watching and alarm bell and, for this reason, it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the Flemish and Northern French belfries.

It is possible to climb the tower, which is still the tallest structure in the city centre, and enjoy the panorama of the entire city and parts of Flanders reaching as far South as Brussels and as far North as Antwerp.

Not to miss is also its world-famous carillon, still used to give concerts.
