"Landau's House" Kazimierz - Jewish District Tip by leics
Kazimierz - Jewish District, Krakow: 87 reviews and 174 photos
This rather imposing building (with some excellent concentric brickwork and buttresses) was built as a sort of manor house by a wealthy inhabitant of Kazimierz n the 16th century. It does remind me rather of the Florentine bastions of the same era; presumably the architect or owner was following fashion.
The ground floor is used a a bookshop, and there's a cafe which presents itself as a series of traditional shops (with artefacts etc).
The fortunes of Kazimierz, and of Krakow, have improved since my first visit in 2006. You can see the difference in the restoration and renovation which the buildings have undergone...including Landau's house. It's still a bookshop and cafe/restaurant and it still has the little 'shops' but the structure is in much better condition than on my first visit.
Address: Ul. Szeroka 2
Directions: Szeroka is the 'broad place' in the heart of Jewish Kazimierz.
