Currently, the Empire State Building, at 381 meters tall and with 102 floors, is the 9th tallest building in the world (set to change with the constructions of Burj Dubai and Al Burj in Dubai) and the tallest in New York, after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Empire State Building is definitely one of the most impressive buildings on the New York skyline; however, this Art Deco building isn't quite as beautiful (in my opinion) as the Chrysler Building. Overall, though, the Empire State Building is seen as a symbol of New York City. I haven't been to the ESB observation deck in almost 10 years, so I can't tell you too much about that, except you'll meet long lines.

This reinforced concrete building was hurriedly constructed in 410 days and was finished in May 1931; at that time, it was the world's tallest building, a record which it held until the completion of the North Tower of the World Trade Center (about three miles to the south). Today the building is viewable from many parts of New York, mainly because it is so prominent.
