I think that a lot of info people get about Crater Lake is to try and limit the fun you will have on your trip. They say that Cleetwood cove is a very strenuous hike… it's not. They say that the water is freezing… it's not.
The water temperature in the summer can vary from 50 to 60 degrees F (10-16 C) that is not really that cold in my opinion. Since the lake is so deep though, the water temperature below 260 feet (80 m) (good luck getting there) stays fairly constant at around 38 F (3 C) year round.
The best places to swim are in Fumerole Bay and near the boat area at the end of the Cleetwood Cove Trail. After a long 1:45 minute boat ride on a hot day it is pretty refreshing.

Directions: In the lake of course
