"If coming from Los Angeles..." Santa Barbara Transportation Tip by chris7ba

Santa Barbara Transportation: 43 reviews and 36 photos

If coming from Los Angeles and/or other points south and east, take the train. While the landscape AmTrak passes from El Paso to Los Angeles is not the most scenic, the ride from Los Angeles up the coast is somewhat breathtaking. Upon crossing into California from Arizona, you don't believe that anything in the state can be green or resemble vegetation; but up through Ventura county, you see lush, green hillsides as you go through the Santa Monica's. You get nice contrast as you ride through Oxnard, looking at all the produce growing before you. And the ride once you pass downtown Ventura, pulling along Highway 101, gazing out onto the sea. Absolutely marvelous. And, once you arrive in Santa Barbara, the AmTrak station is right off of scenic State Street. Perfect.
If you're starting down State Street or checking out Stearn's Wharf, go on foot. If you are traversing the beach, rent a bicycle for the whole family. Its loads of fun. Also, the buses in Santa Barbara seem cheap and ecological.
