  The trail to West Lake

The last of the short (half-mile) trails before you hit the Flamingo Visitor Center. What is unique about this one is that you actually are walking to a lake as opposed to the River of grass. Of course, with all the open water, the bugs are out in full force, so be sure to apply a fresh coat of repellant. There is a boat launch here, but I didn't see anyone using it. Again the trail is a raised boardwalk - this boardwalk cuts through a forest and loops through to a set of mangrove trees along the lake shore. Definitely your best view of the mangroves among the short hikes, so get out and try this one. There are also a number of placards along the trail to help identify some of the plants you are looking at.
