Arriving in Leh (capital of Ladakh) is just breathtaking.

Not only for the beautiful views, but literally, because of the lack of oxygen.

Going by plane, you leave Delhi at an altitude of 216 meter and arrive in Leh at 3500 meter.

Take it easy the first days and allow yourself the time to aclimatize to avoid AMS (acute mountain sickness).
Drink lots of water, soup or tea and avoid alcohol, at least these first days.

Fondest memory:

We arrived the 15th of september. This was the last day of the Ladakh Festival (from 1 to 15 september). During one afternoon we could see some of the traditional dances and the people in their traditional costumes.

Mid September is also the end of the touristic season.
Most tourists left during this period.

This is the perfect time to start trekking. The weather is still fine and on the trails, you almost don't see other trekkers. Only local people, because these trails are often connections between the villages.
