"Spend some time in Portofino" Liguria Things to Do Tip by DanielF

Liguria Things to Do: 98 reviews and 274 photos

We hear Portofino and immediatly spring to our mid images of Sofia Loren and other world-class celebrities from the Hollywood's golden era vacationing in style. Not in vain, this is still the classiest of the towns on the Italian Riviera and has managed to live up to its reputation without lost a bit of the charm of the former fishing town that it was once and partly still is.

Already the arrival in Portofino, via the scenic sea-side road from Santa Margherita Ligure, or even better by ferry from Rapallo or Camogli, anticipates the spectacularity of this tiny town. Its multicoloured fishiermen houses surround the bay at the feet of a heavily forested promontory. From the oppositie side of the bay, the Castello Brown offers terrific views over the town.

Portofino and its surrounding area are classified as a Natural Park and the coastal area is a marine reserve.
