One day, our camp was nearby Hemis Shukpachu, the homevillage of our guide and one of the pony men.

And our guide invited us to his house to have tea and cake. So we had the opportunity to see the inside of a Ladhaki house and to meet some of the family members.

On the way back to the camp we passed the house of our pony man. He and his family were at work in front of the house. He offered us Chang beer. This beer is brewed by each family. So each time you get this beer it tastes different. You cannot buy it in the shops;

You cannot compare this with the kind of beer we know. It is still unfiltered, in fact it is beer in fermentation that you are drinking. According to the travel books, Chang is usually not safe to drink, because untreated water is used in the brewing process. We (= only 2 of us) drank it anyway and we had no health problems afterwards.
