Elia Taverna in Galatas: "Fantastic Grill and Salads!" Crete Island Restaurant Tip by mitscherman
Crete Island Restaurants: 139 reviews and 213 photos
There is something special about Elia from the moment you sit down. The owners, Gianni and Elefteria will be there to greet you and take your order. Don't worry about the menu, ask for what is the special that day and you are in for a treat. Mousaka, Vine Leave, Tzatziki, Grilled Feta, Horta, Greek Salad, Dakos, Grilled lamb and porkchops, and fresh fish just to name a few of the items on their daily menu. Even the fried potatoes are freshly peeled and sliced. There is an ample selection of drinks to include typical soft drinks, ouzo, red and white wines, and well as the traditional raki. All at a reasonable price. At Elia, you are not just a customer, you are family!
Favorite Dish: The tzatziki, horta, stuffed vine leaves, and dakos are my favorite appitizers.
The mixed grill is fantastic but you will easily be full with just one pork chop or an order of grilled lamb. For dessert you have the option of fresh fruit (i.e. watermelon) or the famous 'Gianni Sweets'.
Address: Galatas, Crete
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Head west out of Chania, toward Platanias. Head up hill toward Galatas. It is just past soccer (football) stadium and before the police station.
