"Interior of the Duomo" Il Duomo - Santa Maria del Fiore Tip by codrutz

Il Duomo - Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence: 251 reviews and 528 photos

Tourist have to wait in line to enter (no charge) in the Duomo. The usual line is about 10 minutes but it could get bigger to half an hour. If you estimate more it is better to see other places and come back later - keep in mind that the Duomo is open every day between 10am - 5pm.

The interior is a nice Gothic layout, in form of a Latin cross with 3 naves divided by pillars topped with arches. The floor is multicolored marble. The dome interior is frescoed with scenes taken from the Last Judgment. The famous dome by F. Brunelleschi, whose tomb can be found in the crypt, is aproximately 115 meters in height and 45 meters in diameter.

Check out also the inside clock, made in 1443, pretty odd, having in the corners four prophet heads and below a scene representing the crowning of Mary.
