Shalimar: "Pakistani food in Texas" Tempura Grill Austin Tip by tinyvulture

Tempura Grill Austin, Austin: 1 reviews and 0 photos

This was my first time eating Pakistani food. It seems similar to Indian food, but less spicy/flavorful. Lunch and dinner buffets are offered, or you can order off the menu. Big dining area, simply decorated. Buffet bar is set up right by the cashier, so it can get a little congested. There is also a sweets counter that sells dessert items to eat there or take home.

Favorite Dish: The buffet offered about 6 meat items and 6 vegetarian items. The meats are halal and included goat and beef. The vegetarian items included two kinds of lentils, a cauliflower curry, and creamed spinach with potatoes. One of the lentil dishes was kind of dry, the spinach was oil, and the potaroes were overcooked and mushy. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked, however, and the naan bread was quite tasty. The desserts from the sweets counter were the high point. The halwa (carrot pudding) was sweet and buttery, and gulab jamun (donut holes soaked in syrup) are always good. They also have assorted pieces of fudge, cream-filled cakes, and cookies.
