Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh: 244 reviews and 424 photos
Edinburgh castle dominates the city centre, on top of an extinct volcano. Edinburgh castle should be visited, not only for historical reasons but because it gives such lovely panoramic views of the City.
Edinburgh castle was the favoured Royal residence from the 11th to the 16th Centuries.
Within the castle grounds you can see the former Royal apartments, including the room where Mary Queen of Scotts gave birth to James VI of Scotland, who later became James I of England, the Great Hall where the Parliament of Scotland used to meet, the Scottish National War memorial, St Margaret's chapel - the oldest building in the castle, and the Honours of Scotland - the Crown jewels and regalia. With the crown jewels you can also see the Stone of Destiny, upon which the Monarchs of Scotland were crowned.
