The Kauris are the biggest trees of New Zealand. In former centuries Coromandel peninsula had been covered with them, but most of them have been cut down. In Kauri Grove you can find some really big one of them along a nature trail.

Not far from the Kauri Grove there is a small waterfall called Waiau Falls. It's right beneath highway #309 on your way back to the coast. It's nothing spectacular, but after hiking in the rain forest a refreshing bath in the basin of the falls might be welcome.

Directions: Leave Coromandel Town on highway #25 into direction Thames. Turn left after 5 kilometers onto highway #309. After a few kilometers you'll find the Kauri Grove.
