"Interesting Area to Explore" Soho District Tip by TexasDave

Soho District, New York City: 45 reviews and 75 photos

SoHo, an abbreviation for South of Houston Street, is one of the more trendy and diverse neighborhoods of the city. The main architectural aspect of this area is 'American Industrial' design. Many of these buildings were originally built as warehouses and factories and have prefabricated cast-iron facades. As busineses slowly disappeared from the area it became somewhat neglected and therefore a 'low rent' area. Artisans took advantage of the situation and rented lofts to work in and display their art work. Then followwed the trendy stores, and avant gard, expensive restaurants.
