Lafayette has a fresh inovative menu that changes with the seasons and according to what is avaliable. The beef fillet is sublime and if you are a fish fan, you cant go wrong with the catch of the day. Everything is home made, all the pastas, sauces, soups, salads, everything! You can either sit in the restaurant itself for a more formal atmosphere or next to the fireplace in the courtyard to provide a delicious ambience for a romantic dinner, or you can sit at the tables on the side walk and watch the sun set against the classic cape dutch buildings while sipping a glass of local wine. It is a wine bar and bistro so they have an excellent supply of fantastic local wines, ranging from the well know to the smaller lesser known, however excellent farms. The waitrons are friendly and knowledgable as to how the food is made and what wines best suit your choice of food, they are also always ready to provide any information about the town, university and surrounding attractions. Everyone is made to feel at home in this characteristically european bistro with a distinctly south african flair!

Favorite Dish: The bruschetta with rocket and sweet pepper pesto, topped with honeyed bacon and brie to start. The combination of flavours are extraordinary.
The beef fillet medallions as the main. They are flambed in brandy and port and served with a honey and red wine reduction, they also come served with roasted veg and baby new potatoes. The fillet is always cooked to perfection and ones knife cuts through like a hot knife through butter. They also come in 2 portions, either lady's or men's.
And as dessert the Crepes au chocolat! What can one say but they are heavenly smothered in a belgium chocolate ganash, served with vanilla ice cream and a double espresso.
