"Yet Another View..." Coit Tower Tip by Fewf
Coit Tower, San Francisco: 138 reviews and 265 photos
The Coit Tower isn't horrifically expensive, and you can see a good amount, even on a foggy day. The tower itself is quite old and not terribly tall, but positioned well on Telegraph Hill, high above the rest of the city. Before getting tickets to the top, take a walk around the ground floor and look at the intricate murals.
The elevator that takes you up to the top is quite an old one, and there's actually a person standing there to operate it. As you go up, he (I've never seen a woman do it) tells you about how tall the tower is and then points to the tip box on the wall. There's nothing wrong with being kind, but don't feel obliged.
When you get up there, you find that a lot of people from a lot of countries shove coins through the cracks in the window on to the sills outside where they can't be reached. Don't feel obliged to do that, either. I once noticed that someone had shoved a San Francisco tourist handbook onto the sill. Definitely don't feel obliged to do that.
Address: 1 Telegraph Hill Blvd
Directions: The easiest way is to follow Lombard St. to the end (but not from the Embarcadero).
