Sports in Hyderabad was always the vestige of Royalty. The truly global sport that came to India was Cricket, through the British. Patronised later by the ruling Nawbas and Princes of various states all over India. It gained prominence to its current state now where Cricket is next only to religion.

Hyderabad has been home to the most laziest set of people who had it all at their beck and call since time immemorial. Though they had the best parks and facilities, you would have hardly counted a dozen doing thier jogs early morning. Its only lately that you see gyms bursting to the seams, parks having a traffic jam on the jogging track, and Necklace Road full of beautiful ladies trying to keep that figure perfect!!

But despite this laziness, it still threw up sporting superstars quite often. It has played a significant role in inspiring confidence in the country's ability to produce sportsmen of caliber. Football was one sport that ruled the roost through the 60's and 70's, with Hyderabad throwing up quite a few sportstars who played at the international level. Hyderabad gave the world of cricket Md. Azharuddin and VVS Laxman, they best of the lot. Tennis had Pullela Gopichand -Badminton, and finally Sania Mirza hits it hard for lawn tennis.
