In my opinion the tunnels and the War Remnants museum are a must see if you visit HCMC.
The guide that i got spoke relatively good english, and was enthusiastic enough in showing us around. That was a very good bonus. =)
A introduction on the Cu Chi tunnels is given in one of the rooms there before a guide approaches you and shows you around. The introduction really helps you to appreciate the tunnels. They explain the ingenuity in the construction of the tunnels, the crawling spaces, smokeless kitchens etc etc. And the fact that they took 20 years to dig the tunnels with very simple tools. Amazing.
The tunnels are small, even for a 1.69m tall asian like me. And it can get a little claustrophobic. Even then, i would recommend anyone to try the 50m tunnel at least. Only then you can truly appreciate the difficulty that they must have faced living in the tunnels for so long.
This place is a definite must see.
