Red Fort, Delhi: 121 reviews and 295 photos

Naubat Khana means the Drum House. This three-storeyed building is near the entrance of the fort area. Also known as Naqqar Khana, it was here that five times a day, at set hours, music was played. Another name for this structure was 'Hathi Pol' (Elephant Gate) because visitors dismounted from their elephants here. With the carved designs on the red stone walls it is thought that these carvings were originally painted with gold. The interiors were also painted. The building also has some sinister history with the Mughal kings Jahandar Shah and Farrukhsiyar being murdered here. Today the War Memorial Museum is housed her on the upper floor.
