"Pigmy Hippo" ZSL (Zoological Society of London ) London Zoo Tip by Cham

Meet the Monkeys at London Zoo
by Cham

yes they have one of these in London Zoo and I want one! a hippo in every way except about 1/5th the size...

anyways London zoo has been a trip i do every year or two since i can remember. I do think that keeping the animals in captivity is cruel but for endangered species there isn't much else we can do. The zoo is a great place for kids to have fun and learn a lot about conservation and animals.

The new features there really impressed me. I havent' been there for a couple of years but now there are a few places you can walk into and "meet" the animals without the cages. The aviary was always there as far as I remember so you have the birds flying around you whilst you're walking through, but the Butterfly project is new. dozens of butterflies in all sizes and colour fly around you as if you were in a tropical paradise. There is a section at the back of this where you can see how they breed the butterflies and even an incubation section where you can see new butterflies emerging from the cocoons.

there's a place called BUGS and you can get to handly some mean looking insects and arachnids and learn about them at the same time.

The best new feature though has to be the meet the monkeys section. lots of ropes tied to trees etc with at least 7 monkeys running around posing for pictures. they are quite used to people and will come very close to you.

London zoo is a great place to learn about nature and its inhabitants and the importance of conservation whether you are old or young, and for us city dwellers it's a great way to get closer to nature. Make sure you get there early, the penguin show is about 1:30 and it's unmissable, and your kids will love the BUGS show at 3pm
