Bayonne is an incredibly beautiful city of colourful streets, two rivers and some fine museums. The highlight has to be the Basque Museum in an ancient Basque house with three floors of Basque history and culture, as well as the history of Bayonne itself.

There is also a large city art gallery, the Musee Bonnart, with a worthy collection of old masters paintings. There are a number of smaller galleries too in the town centre.

The impressive Cathedrale and 13th century Cloisters are free to visit, conveniently situated nextdoor to Bayonne's Chocolate Museum! Bayonne has been France's centre for chocolate since the early 1600's.

Address: Southwest France
Directions: An hour or so south of Bordeaux or west of Pau. Only a few km's from Biarritz and the Basque coast.
