"Mediterranean Museum" Top 5 Page for this destination Medelhavs Museet - Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities Tip by Sjalen

by Sjalen

The full title is the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities and just about sums up what you find in this museum which also has a nice cafe where there is sometimes related entertainment. The museum has a section on Greece and Rome which shows pretty much what you would expect, including a selection of Etruscan finds. Then there is one on Islamic art of various kinds. The collection from the Near East includes findings from a Swedish dig in Iran and treasures from Babylon. An Egyptian collection has mummified cats and lots of things from Egypt up until the Christian era and a portrait of a pharaoh that was given as a gift from Egypt when Sweden helped with the Asswan dam. There is also a Gold room which is only open on request but which has lots of treasures, including Etruscan jewellery.
