Province of Nova Scotia Things to Do: 137 reviews and 270 photos

Nova Scotia is almost completely surrounded by water so it stands to reason there will be a lot of beautiful ocean beaches. Some have picnic facilities, toilets and canteens. Some are hugely popular and generally always crowded and some are a bit further away but worth the drive. Many have supervised areas. Warmer waters can be found along the Northumberland Straight. Watch the tides though, the currents can be dangerous in some areas. If there are signs up, take notice. They're not there for decoration.

Some of the provincial parks have camping facilities.
Nova Scotia also has lots and lots of lakes with beaches.

My personal favourite ocean beach in the Halifax area is Martinique Beach and bird sanctuary. wooded and open picnic areas. Long sandy beach, really nice and worth the drive. Near Musquodoboit Harbour, down East Petpeswick road.

My favourite lake beach is Birch Cove on Lake Banook in Dartmouth.
