"Silver Langur. Little devils" State of Sabah Things to Do Tip by hennanights

State of Sabah Things to Do: 272 reviews and 407 photos

Along with Proboscis monkeys you also see Silver leaf monkeys at Labuk Bay . Called Leaf monkeys because of their ability to digest leaves, high in toxins, which is a stable of their diet. They are the only type of monkeys to have 4 compartments to their stomachs which slows down the digestive process. These monkeys with little demonic faces, long tails and black with silver highlighted fur, stayed clear of the proboscis primates preferring to come close to the lookout to eat their treats. They were timid and well behaved not at all like the Macaques found in temples. One of the interesting things about these monkeys is the colouring of their offspring. Their little ones are a bright orange. They stay this colour till they reach about 3-4 months old. Completely different colour to their parents. The infants are quite a striking colour up against their mothers dark fur. Females give birth every two years and they live in families of around 9 to 12.

Directions: Labuk Bay Proboscis monkey sanctuary
Located at the coast of Labuk near Kampong Samawang. The site also accessible by way of Sandakan Town located towards East of Kota Kinabalu, the state capital
