  Slottsdammen in Slottsparken
by nvm25

Start your second day in Oslo by visiting the Palace Park. If you stay at the SAS Scandinavia Hotel or Hotel Europa or at other places close to Holbergs plass, the park will be just in your neighbourhood. Alternatively, take tram #11 to Welhavens gate, and you will find yourself at the northeast corner of the park, as well as at the beginning of the most stylish shopping area in Oslo - Hedgehaugsveien leading into Bogstadsveien. As for the park, you'll be entering its most sleepy and charming part, starting with a picturesque pond Slottsdammen (see picture) A nearby path will lead you to the center and the Royal Palace (see previous tip) Sculptures in the park can tell you a lot about the Norwegian history and culture. For example, the nearby statue of Camilla Colette (1813?95), Norwegian feminist novelist, essayist, and and one of the most influenctial female literary critics of her time. Collett was the sister of the poet Henrik Wergeland and the lover of J. S. Welhaven, his rival.

Address: Slottsparken, near Nationaltheateret
Directions: From Stortorvet you can take trams 17,18 to Holbergs plass or tram 11 to Welhavensgate (or you can go off at Holbergsplass as well), T-bane station Nationaltheateret
