Since the exchange rate is not favorable to the US anymore, we did not do any shopping in Montreal, the first time I’ve ever written 0 on my customs form. Actually, we did bring back one can of maple syrup (sirop d'erable). And 2 small sugar pies (sucre tartlets). Shhh, don’t tell customs.
The March 2006 issue of Gourmet Magazine had a terrific article on Montreal including a list of their favorite maple syrups which include Coombs Family Farms, Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks, Maple Orchard Farms, Carman Brook Maple Farm, South Meadow Farm Sugarworks, Smokey Kettle Maple Company, Mance’s Tree Farm and Fuller’s Sugarhouse.
