"Never judge a port city until you've seen the port" Aker Brygge Tip by nvm25

Aker Brygge, Oslo: 44 reviews and 106 photos

After coming back from Bygdøy, spend the rest of your first day in Oslo hanging out at Aker Brygge: the place has an unrivaled seaside feel and is full of bars and restaurants. (There are also vast shopping possibilities you may explore in July, the season of sales!). What you see here is a former site of Norway's largest shipbuilding enterprise, magically turned into an excellent example of modern architecture. The Norwegian ship industry may be squeezed out by petroleum, but it is not dead: guess who ownes 100% of the Aker-Finnyards, Finnland based shipyard which launched world's biggest passenger ferry last year.
You may find restaurants here very pricey, but there are also some budget alternatives: Peppes Pizza at the centre of it all or McDonalds with a sea view

Address: Oslo Harbour, near the City Hall
Directions: The closest T-bane (subway) station is Nationalteateret, from Vigeland's park (Majorstuen) - take tram #12
